The 2020 Corvette Z06 is a beast. It’s got more power than ever before, with 650 horsepower and 650 pound-feet of torque on tap. It’s also quicker than ever, with a top speed of 210 mph (340 km/h).
But you’re probably not here for the raw numbers; you want to know how much horsepower will the C8 Z06 have? What about its torque figure? Let’s find out.
The 2020 Corvette Z06 is powered by a naturally aspirated 6.2-liter V8 engine that makes 650 horsepower at 6,400 rpm and 650 pound-feet of torque at 4,600 rpm. That’s an increase over the previous generation ‘Vette, which had 640 hp and 630 lb-ft of torque from its supercharged 6.2L V8 engine.
The current Z06 has 650 hp and 650 lb-ft of torque. While that’s a lot, it’s not enough to make the Corvette competitive with European supercars such as the Ferrari 488 GTB or McLaren 720S. Those cars have 700 hp and 690 lb-ft of torque, respectively.
GM is planning to fix that by making the C8 Z06 significantly more powerful than before. The current car isn’t exactly slow, but it’s no match for Ferraris, Lamborghinis and McLarens on the track.
To make it more competitive with those vehicles, GM will add a lot more power to the C8 Z06. The engine will be upgraded with a supercharger and other tweaks to increase its output from 650 hp to 800 hp (and maybe even more).
C8 Z06; Chevy’s new Corvette Z06 is a monster. The automaker says it will have more than 700 horsepower, making it one of the most powerful street-legal vehicles in the world.
So how much horsepower does that actually translate to?
C8 Z06; The answer depends on which variant you’re talking about. Base models get 650 ponies, while uprated trims come with an extra 100 hp under the hood. Both versions are mated to a seven-speed manual transmission and rear-wheel drive (the eight-speed automatic is available only with the base model).
C8 Z06; The ZR1 comes with the same powertrain as its lesser siblings, but it gets an extra 50 hp from its supercharger — so it’ll top out at 750 ponies. That makes it one of the most powerful cars ever built by GM. But it’s still not as much as some other hypercars from Porsche and Ferrari.

C8 Z06; The new Corvette ZR1’s supercharged 6.2-liter V8 produces 755 horsepower and 715 pound-feet of torque, which is up from the 650 hp and 650 lb-ft that was available in the previous Z06. The new engine is built on GM’s LT5 block, which is also used for the Corvette ZR1.
C8 Z06; The LT5 features a flat-plane crankshaft, which helps keep vibrations at bay by eliminating the 90-degree firing order of traditional V8s. It also makes for a much more exciting exhaust note that you can hear in the video below:
The engine also has direct injection, cylinder deactivation and Active Fuel Management (cylinders shut off during light load conditions). It has a 9-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters or manual control through steering wheel-mounted paddles.
How much will Z06 C8 cost?
The Corvette Z06 C8 is the most powerful production Corvette ever, and it’s also the most expensive. The base model starts at $73,290, while the ZR1 model will cost you a cool $122,825.
If you want to get a Z06 C8 with all of the performance options and goodies, that’ll cost you about $85 grand. However, if you’re looking for something more affordable, there’s always the Stingray S7 ($51,995) or even the Stingray S5 ($45,495).
C8 Z06; You can get a Stingray S5 coupe with a manual transmission for just $45,495 — much less than the $55K price tag on an automatic-only Z06 C8. The only problem is that Chevy only plans to build 1,000 manual-transmission Stingrays this year (and none next year), so they’re likely to sell out fast.

The Corvette Z06 C8 will be a supercar-challenging, track-ready machine when it hits showrooms in 2020. The new C8 will cost between $100,000 and $130,000 depending on options.
The Corvette Z06 C8 will be powered by a 755-horsepower 6.2-liter LT5 V8 engine that features an all-new aluminum block, titanium exhaust valves and cylinder heads, and direct injection with an electronic throttle body. The engine is paired with a seven-speed manual or eight-speed automatic transmission.
Corvette Forum user “Roush 427” provided some additional details about the upcoming Corvette:
The car should weigh about 3200 lbs with a full tank of gas and driver. The body is all carbon fiber with a magnesium roof panel for weight savings and strength as well as an aluminum frame to keep weight down as much as possible while providing strength where needed most. There are also no rear seats which will save another 30 pounds or so even though they aren’t needed in this application anyway.

The cost of the Z06 C8 Corvette is still a mystery. The base price will be revealed at the Detroit Auto Show on January 14, 2020.
However, we can already make some educated guesses about what it will cost. We know that the Z06 will have a starting price of $79,995 and that it will be powered by a 6.2-liter LT5 V8 engine that produces 755 horsepower and 715 lb-ft of torque. Is the Z06 or ZR1 faster?
The Corvette Z06 and Corvette ZR1 are both incredible performance cars. They’re also both incredibly fast. But which one is the fastest?
To find out, we took both cars to the track to set some lap times in our latest episode of Head 2 Head. We tested them on a 2.5-mile road course that includes a slalom section and a high-speed straightaway, as well as an autocross course designed to test handling at slower speeds.
At the drag strip, we found that the two Corvettes are evenly matched for acceleration. The package costs $7,995 on Corvette Stingray models or $8,495 on ZR1s.
You can also get the same carbon-ceramic brakes as an option for non-ZR1 Corvette Stingrays for $10,995 or on Z06s for $11,995 (prices include installation). That’s not cheap, but it does improve stopping power by about 20 percent over traditional discs in both dry and wet conditions.
There are also some less obvious options available on the Z06 that will make your car feel even more special than it already does: You can have your car painted in either matte black or white (which we haven’t seen since 2012). Both colors were offered on previous generations of Corvettes (and still are), but they are rarely if ever seen today due to their high cost
Will there be a C8 ZR1?
The ZR1 has always been the ultimate Corvette, and with its high-tech aero package and supercharged LT5 V8, the C7 ZR1 is no exception. But now that we have the C8 Corvette, it’s time to speculate on what comes next.
Will there be a C8 ZR1?
The Corvette team has shown that they’re not afraid of making big changes to the car’s look — witness how dramatically different the C7 looked from the C6 before it. But when it comes to performance, it seems like they prefer incremental updates over major revamps. This isn’t necessarily bad; the Z06 is still a fantastic track car, even if it doesn’t have 500 horsepower like its predecessor did.
C8 Z06; But here’s where things get interesting: The current ZR1 uses an LT4 V8 with 755 hp and 715 lb-ft of torque. That’s more power than any other GM production vehicle has ever had — but not by much. The next-generation 2020 Cadillac CT8 will reportedly have 800 hp and 590 lb-ft of torque from its twin-turbo 3.0L V6 engine, which would put it ahead of any other production car in America (for now).
The C7 ZR1 was the last of a dying breed. With the new Stingray and Grand Sport, Corvette has shifted its focus to more attainable cars, leaving behind the fastest production Corvettes ever made. That’s a shame for those who want to get their hands on one of these beasts, but it’s also understandable — GM can’t make money off every single car it builds.
It’s not yet clear if there will be a C8 ZR1. When asked about it, GM executives have said only that they’re not talking about future products yet. If there is going to be another supercar-fast Corvette, though, here are some things we’d like them to do:

It should be powered by a supercharged 6.2-liter V8 that makes 715 horsepower and 785 pound-feet of torque — about 100 more horsepower than the current ZR1’s 638 ponies.
The car will also come with carbon fiber body panels, most likely replacing the steel ones on other models in order to shed weight and improve performance. The C8 Corvette Zora will reportedly cost $74,000 — about $10K more than the current ZR1 but less than half what some other supercars cost.
The next-generation Corvette is expected to be revealed in 2021 and go on sale shortly thereafter.

The 2020 Corvette will likely have at least 800 horsepower C8 Z06 , but we expect it to be closer to 850 or even 900, which would make it about as powerful as Dodge’s Challenger Hellcat Redeye. It’s also possible that Chevy could push the Corvette past 1,000 horsepower if it wants to compete with the upcoming Ford Mustang Shelby GT500.
The 2021 C8 ZR1 will likely have at least 900 horsepower and could go up to 1,000. The ZR1 1LE is rumored to have 985, which seems like a good indication that there may be even more power available from the C8 ZR1’s twin-turbo V8 engine.
