The customer chose to go with Avery Dennison’s Supreme Wrapping film. Avery is one of the most highly regarded manufacturers of wrap vinyl in the world, and Avery Dennison’s Nardo Gray is a perfect match for Audi’s paint code LY9C. The material itself was covered under warranty for 5 years, but Wrap Kings offered an additional 5-year warranty on top of that.
The total price for this wrap was $4,200, which included all materials, labor and taxes. That’s not cheap by any means, but it’s definitely less expensive than getting your car repainted from scratch!
Is Nardo GREY a Wrap or Paint?
There is a lot of confusion in the public sector regarding Nardo GREY. Primarily, is it a wrap or paint?
Nardo GREY is a paint color. It is similar to Porsche’s Rhodium Silver and Audi’s Daytona Grey. It was developed by Audi and is used on their R8 models.
The color has become popular as automotive enthusiasts have seen it on the streets and at car shows with custom wraps. Most of the time, these custom wraps are a very close match to Nardo GREY, but this is where the confusion begins.
As I understand it, Nardo Grey is a color originally developed by Audi. In the past few years, several companies have begun offering it as a wrap option.
Currently, there are only two places in the United States that offer Nardo Grey paint: O’Reilly Auto Parts and Concept Paints.
O’Reilly has it listed as “NDG” on the website. It’s $13 per can of spray paint or $66 per pint of touch-up paint.
Concept Paints is an online seller with a web application to match a vehicle’s color using VIN number, year or make and model. Their site lists it as “PPG Code: 50/WA9028” for $59 for 2 ounces of touch-up paint or $149 for a quart of automotive paint. They also offer 1-gallon kits for $399 or 5-gallon buckets for $1,299.
The Nardo Gray Audi R8 V10 you see above is not a wrap. It is paint. Nardo Gray paint, to be exact.
Now, we can’t tell for sure that it’s an R8 V10 Plus because though it has the rear spoiler of a Plus, it also has the side blades of a regular V10. So maybe it’s just a regular V10 and the owner got some fancy wheels and a rear spoiler from an R8 V10 Plus. Maybe they have the money to do that. Maybe they’re crazy rich and wanted to get the side blades of their car painted in Nardo Gray. Who are we to judge? We’re just journalists here at Jalopnik, trying to get to the bottom of things concerning automotive matters.
The point is: this car was painted Nardo Gray with some kind of paint that makes it look like a wrap but isn’t actually a wrap. Paint technology is incredible these days, so much so that you can buy cars new with matte finishes that don’t turn out looking like someone rubbed them down with flannel too vigorously before applying wax.
That said, I’m pretty sure this car isn’t totally stock, at least in terms of suspension, because the ride height looks pretty low
