The NASCAR Xfinity Series is a stock car racing series organized by NASCAR. It is promoted as NASCAR’s “minor league” circuit, and is considered a proving ground for drivers who wish to step up to the organization’s top level circuit, the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series.
The Xfinity Series has its roots in NASCAR’s regional days. It began in 1982 as the Busch Series, racing mostly in the northeastern United States. In 2003, it was renamed to the Nationwide Series to mirror the naming scheme of General Motors’ then-new replacement series for what had been known as the GTP Pontiac Grand Prix. The idea for this development came about after many years of Jim France (former CEO of NACS/NMS) lobbying for a regional touring series with major sponsorship that would be able to travel to different tracks throughout the country. The name change happened in 2008 following bankruptcy proceedings for NNS sponsor UAW-GM Quality Care Services (which had sponsored the No. 8 car driven by Jamie McMurray), and ultimately led to more teams joining in 2009 because of less competition over sponsorships.[1][2][3]
The series has been revamped several times since it

The NASCAR Cup Series is a stock car racing series sanctioned by the National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing (NASCAR). It is the highest division of stock car racing in America. The series, currently known as the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series, is often referred to as just “NASCAR” or “the Cup Series”. The series and its awards are governed by NASCAR. The Cup Series championship is determined by a playoff system. Drivers are awarded points based on their finishing position in each race, with the lowest number of points being awarded to the winner.
The sanctioning body was officially incorporated on February 21, 1947, by Bill France Sr., with other inaugural members Bernie Ecclestone, Arthur Scargill and Bob Howsam.[1] In 1972, Winston Cup Series races were rebranded as NASCAR races.[2][3] The company’s logo was redesigned in 1982[4][5] (the current version), and the term “Cup” was officially adopted by NASCAR for its premier series in 2009.[6][7]

The series will head to Talladega Superspeedway for their second race in the Round of 12 in the playoffs. The race will take place on Sunday, Sept. 29th at 2:30 pm ET/11:30 am PT. The race will be broadcast on FOX and FS1.
Talladega is a 2-mile superspeedway located outside of Birmingham, Alabama. The track opened in 1969 and has been hosting Nascar races since 1970. It has been the site of many classic races including the infamous 1979 Daytona 500 where Donnie Allison and Cale Yarborough crashed at the finish line after a late race battle for the win. The race became known as “The Battle of Alabama” and won Allison the race but was marred by controversy when Yarborough accused Allison of wrecking him on purpose after they crossed the finish line together side-by-side with their bumpers touching each other’s cars!
The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Talladega is scheduled to start on Sunday, Oct. 22, at 1 p.m. ET.
The race will be broadcast on FOX Sports 1 and will be the last race of the season before the Chase for the Championship begins on Sept. 18 at Chicagoland Speedway.
This year’s race will be the 43rd running of the 500-lap event, which has been run every year since 1969 but was not held from 1982 to 1985 due to safety concerns about its high speeds and lack of seat belts or other safety equipment in cars of that era.
What channel is the Talladega race on Sunday?
The Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series heads to Talladega Superspeedway for the GEICO 500. The event will be broadcast live on FOX, with coverage starting at 12:30 p.m. ET.
FOX Sports is in its second year of a 10-year deal to broadcast NASCAR’s top series. This season, FOX will air all 36 races for the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series, including the Daytona 500, in addition to select Xfinity Series events and practice and qualifying sessions across both series.
The network will also air six additional races — including four playoff races — on FOX Sports 1 or FOX Deportes.
The NASCAR Cup Series race at Talladega Superspeedway is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. ET on Sunday, Oct. 21, and will be broadcast on NBC.
The race will air live in the United States on NBCSN, but you can also stream it online if you have cable or satellite TV service.

The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series will race at Talladega Superspeedway on Sunday, April 14th. The race is scheduled to start at 1:00 PM Eastern Time.
The race will be broadcast live on FOX. The pre-race show begins 30 minutes before the scheduled starting time and the race itself is expected to last three hours.
The Talladega race is one of only two races on the NASCAR schedule that uses restrictor plates. The other is Daytona 500 qualifying, which takes place the week before the season opening Daytona 500.
Restrictor plates are used in order to decrease top speeds at these two tracks so that drivers aren’t hurt by flying debris from crashes or contact with other cars. At Talladega and Daytona, drivers cannot go faster than about 200 mph on a straightaway because of this restriction
NASCAR fans are gearing up for the biggest race of the season. The Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series heads to Talladega Superspeedway this Sunday.
The Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series, or simply the Cup Series, is the top racing series of the National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing (NASCAR). The series is often referred to as “Cup” and currently consists of 36 races over 10 different events in two separate series. The regular season ends with the Brickyard 400 in late July or early August, while the Chase for the Cup begins in September and ends with a race at Miami-Homestead Speedway in mid-November.[1]
The first race was held at Daytona International Speedway on February 22, 1949 and won by Buck Baker. At that time, there were only about a dozen other events on the schedule; today’s schedule has grown to more than twice that number. In its 72nd year of existence, it is one of the oldest active sports car racing championships in the world.[2]
In addition to the 36-race regular season schedule on tracks ranging from 1 mile short tracks to 2 mile superspeedways, there are also several non-points races run throughout each
Who will broadcast NASCAR in 2022?
The NASCAR television package will be up for grabs in 2022.
Fox Sports has the exclusive rights to broadcast NASCAR’s top series through 2021, but it could be the last time Fox has that right.
Turner Sports and NBC Sports are among the networks that have expressed interest in obtaining NASCAR’s rights.
ESPN has said it is not interested in renewing its contract with NASCAR after 2021, when its current deal expires. The network was scheduled to carry some races on its ESPN+ streaming service this season but decided against doing so due to low viewership numbers.
In the wake of the recent news that NBC Sports will drop NASCAR after 2021, there’s been some speculation about which network could take over.
In a report at The Hollywood Reporter, it’s been suggested that Fox could be in the mix. The company already broadcasts Formula One racing, and it also has a stake in Formula 1, which could be a factor if F1 decides to cut ties with NBC Sports as well.
However, Fox may not be the only option for NASCAR fans who are worried about losing their favorite sport on television next year. ESPN’s Bob Pockrass tweeted Monday that Fox is not likely to take over from NBC because it doesn’t want to give up its current rights package with Major League Baseball (which expires after 2021).
That leaves two possibilities for who could replace NBC: Turner Sports or CBS Sports Network. Both networks have broadcast NASCAR on occasion over the years but neither has shown any interest in owning exclusive rights to the series going forward.
The 2022 NASCAR season will have a new broadcast partner.
Fox Sports announced that it will not renew its contract with NASCAR after the 2021 season, ending a 32-year relationship. Fox Sports and NBC Sports shared the broadcast rights for the Cup Series from 2001 to 2022.
“We are deeply disappointed to see NASCAR’s contract with FOX Sports come to an end,” said Steve Phelps, NASCAR Executive Vice President and Chief Global Sales & Marketing Officer. “FOX has been a tremendous partner over the past three decades and we are thankful for their dedication to our sport and its fans.”
When asked if he was surprised by the news, Dale Earnhardt Jr. told The Associated Press: “Not really. The way they’re going with their other sports, they didn’t really seem like they were too interested in keeping up with the commitment they had made in this one.”
In 2021, FOX Sports and NBC Sports will go head-to-head with their new NASCAR TV packages. FOX Sports will broadcast the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series while NBC Sports will air the NASCAR Xfinity Series and Camping World Truck Series.
The new seasons will begin on Sunday, February 10 at Daytona International Speedway with the Daytona 500. On that same day, NBC Sports will kick off its coverage of the 2019 season by airing the Advance Auto Parts Clash at Daytona (1 p.m. ET). The Clash is a 70-lap race that precedes the Daytona 500 by one day.
FOX Sports’ first race is the Great American Race itself — the Daytona 500 — which airs live on FOX from Daytona International Speedway on Sunday, February 17 at 2:30 p.m. ET
