The 2022 World Cup will take place in November and December. The decision to move the event from its traditional June-July slot was taken by FIFA’s executive committee at its meeting in Zurich on Wednesday.
It is the first time that football’s showpiece tournament has been played outside its traditional window since 1986, when Mexico staged it in May and June.
The last time the competition took place in November was the 2002 tournament in Japan and South Korea, which was also moved because of fears over the spread of SARS – or severe acute respiratory syndrome – across Asia.
FIFA president Gianni Infantino said the decision had been made after careful consideration by both him and FIFA’s medical team.
“We decided today to play this World Cup in November/December 2022,” he said. “I personally talked about this with all members of our executive committee, who were very supportive.”
Infantino added that he believed it would be easier for fans to attend matches during this period rather than having them take place during summer months when temperatures can rise above 40 degrees Celsius (104 Fahrenheit).
The 2022 World Cup will be held in November and December instead of the usual June / July dates, FIFA has announced.
The decision was made after consultation with all key stakeholders, including broadcasters, corporate partners and national football associations. The final dates of the tournament will be confirmed at the next FIFA Council meeting in January 2020.
The decision was taken after an agreement between FIFA, Qatar 2022 and broadcasters was reached on a revised timetable for the tournament to allow for best possible conditions during the event.
FIFA President Gianni Infantino said: “We have taken into account all stakeholder feedback in making our decision regarding the final dates of the 2022 FIFA World Cup™. We are now focused on ensuring that we deliver an outstanding FIFA World Cup in Qatar by working hand-in-hand with our partners to ensure that this small nation hosts a tournament that is second to none.”
Why is the WC in the winter?
The World Cup is taking place in the winter, because FIFA president Gianni Infantino has decided that it should.
FIFA had promised to move the tournament from its traditional June and July slot to allow for a better TV schedule, but ultimately decided on November 20 to December 18.
This means that some countries will have their seasons interrupted by the tournament and that players will be forced to play in a time of year when they are not used to doing so.
Here’s what we know about why FIFA made this decision and why it might not be the best one…
The World Cup is the biggest sporting event in the world. It’s a month-long festival of football, with 32 teams and over 700 players competing for the ultimate prize.
The tournament takes place every four years and has been running since 1930. The next World Cup will take place in Qatar in 2022.
But why does it happen when it does? Why does “football” turn to “soccer” when you cross an ocean? And why is it called “football” anyway?
We asked our readers on Facebook and Twitter to tell us their thoughts. Here’s what they had to say:
“I don’t know why they do it in winter but I think they should do it during summer like other countries.” (Bobby Smith)
“It’s because if they did it during summer, there would be too many matches going on at the same time.” (Hannah Rigg)
“It’s because football is more popular in Europe than anywhere else so there are most fans who want to watch their team play.” (Kate Brown)
I have been asked this question a lot recently.
There are two reasons:
1. The bathroom is the most used room in the house during the winter time.
2. The bathroom is the least used room in the house in summer (most people go to outdoor swimming pools).
3. Most people don’t like having a cold shower in winter, so they use the toilet more often and flush it more often than usual.
Is the World Cup always in the summer?
The World Cup is held every four years, but it’s not always in the summer. The first World Cup was held in 1930, and it was hosted by Uruguay. The next three World Cups were also held in the South American country. The first two of these tournaments were held in the spring, while the third was played in the autumn.
The fourth World Cup was hosted by Italy in 1934 and took place during the winter months, from May 19th to June 16th. This is because most countries didn’t have enough stadiums or infrastructure to host a World Cup during their summer months, so FIFA decided to move the tournament to an earlier date.
The fifth World Cup was hosted by France in 1938 and it took place from May 4th through June 19th — again because of climate concerns. The sixth World Cup was held in Brazil from June 17th through July 15th, 1942 — yes, during wartime — due to travel restrictions caused by World War II (1939-1945).
The seventh edition was originally scheduled for 1946 but had to be rescheduled for 1950 due to another war (1945-1949). This time it wasn’t climate-related but political: FIFA had banned Uruguay from international competition after its players took part
The World Cup is always held in the summer. The next edition of the tournament will be held in 2022, and it will take place from June 11 to July 15. The event takes place every four years and is hosted by a different country each time.
The first World Cup was held in 1930 and was won by Uruguay, who beat Argentina 4-2 in the final in front of a crowd of 93,000 people at the Estadio Centenario in Montevideo, Uruguay.
The World Cup is always held in the summer, but not because of any FIFA decree. The tournament has been played during the summer months since its first edition in 1930.
The idea for holding a world football championship came about after the 1928 Summer Olympics were held in Amsterdam. FIFA president Jules Rimet was inspired by how successful the Olympics had been and decided he wanted to create a similar event for football. FIFA had organized the first World Cup in Uruguay in 1930, with 13 teams competing for the title; it was won by Uruguay, who beat Argentina 4-2 in front of 90,000 spectators at Estadio Centenario in Montevideo on July 30, 1930.
The following year’s World Cup took place across Europe and South America as well as in Uruguay — this time with 16 teams competing. Brazil won its first title after defeating Czechoslovakia 3-1 at Estadio Gomes De Castro in Leiria on June 26, 1931 (Argentina would have also won that year if not for their 1-0 loss to USA).
What month will the 2022 World Cup be played?
The 2022 World Cup will be played from Nov. 21 to Dec. 18, 2022.
The 2022 World Cup will be played in Qatar, which is unusual because the tournament has traditionally been held in the summer months. But FIFA moved the dates of the 2022 World Cup because it couldn’t find a suitable host for 2021, pushing Qatar’s tournament back by a year.
The 2022 World Cup will be played in November and December instead of June and July like previous tournaments have been. This is due to Qatar’s extreme summer heat.
The 2022 World Cup will be played in Qatar between November 21 and December 18.
The first game will be played at the Lusail Stadium in Doha, while the final will be held at the Al-Rayyan Stadium on December 18.
The tournament has been expanded from 32 to 48 teams, meaning there are eight groups of four teams each. The top two teams in each group will advance to the round of 16.
The tournament kicks off with a match between host nation Qatar and Japan on November 21.
The 2022 FIFA World Cup is scheduled to be held in Qatar, the Middle East. The tournament will take place from 21 November to 18 December 2022.
This will be the first time that the World Cup will be held in the Middle East and just the second time it has been hosted by an Arab country after Egypt in 1934.
The 2022 World Cup will be played in a total of eight cities across Qatar. Two of these cities are brand new, having been built especially for the tournament. These include Al Wakrah Stadium and Al Bayt Stadium which will host matches at the First Round stage, while Al Thumama Stadium, Al Wakrah Stadium and Ras Abu Aboud Stadium will host matches at later stages of the competition.

The first match kicks off at 11pm BST on Thursday 14 June, with hosts Russia taking on Saudi Arabia in Moscow. The tournament runs for 32 days until 15 July, with 64 matches taking place across 12 venues in 11 cities.
Who are the favourites?
Brazil are red hot favourites to win their sixth World Cup title after finishing top of their group with three wins out of three games. They haven’t lost a competitive match since their 7-1 semi-final defeat against Germany at the 2014 tournament and have been drawn against Switzerland, Costa Rica and Serbia in Group E. Neymar scored two goals against Costa Rica last week to fire them into the last 16.
France also made it through as winners of Group C after four wins from four games, including an impressive 2-1 victory over Argentina that sealed their qualification for the knock-out stages
The World Cup is a global football (soccer) tournament contested by the men’s national teams of the members of Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA), the sport’s international governing body. The tournament occurs every four years, with the exception of the inaugural competition in 1930, which was played in Uruguay. The World Cup was first held in Uruguay on 13 July 1930, when hosts Uruguay defeated Argentina 4–2 in the final at Estadio Centenario in Montevideo to become the first World Champion.
Since then, it has been held every four years, with Brazil winning five times and Spain two times. Latin American countries have won all but three titles. In 2018, France will host its second ever World Cup following its victory over Croatia 4-2 in the final match at Moscow’s Luzhniki Stadium on 15 July 2018.
Why is the 2022 World Cup in the fall?
The 2022 World Cup is going to be played in the fall, with kickoff scheduled for Nov. 21. Why?
The answer is simple: Qatar and FIFA really wanted it that way.
The 2022 World Cup had been slated for the winter months — November and December — until FIFA changed its mind a few months ago and moved it to November-December 2022. The reason? To avoid an overlap with Ramadan, which takes place in June-July of that year.
But why did FIFA decide on November-December instead of October-November? The answer lies in the bidding process for 2022’s host nation. In 2010, Qatar won its bid to host the World Cup by promising FIFA an unprecedented $200 billion in infrastructure projects around Qatar’s capital city, Doha. But those projects include stadiums — specifically, eight new stadiums — as well as roads and railroads connecting them all together, as well as hotels and luxury apartment buildings near those stadiums. All told, Qatar is planning on building 16 new facilities specifically for the 2022 World Cup alone — which means there are only two years left before construction needs to start at these sites if they’re going to be ready in time for 2022 games (and that’s assuming that all goes Magically creating copy

The tournament will begin on November 21 and conclude with the final on December 18.
“FIFA has chosen to bring forward the 2022 FIFA World Cup Qatar™ to winter because of the extreme heat conditions in summer in Qatar,” said a statement from FIFA president Gianni Infantino. “We have been discussing this option for a long time and we believe that shifting the dates can help us address the health of players, officials and spectators.”
Why is World Cup once every 4 years?
World Cup is an international football tournament that takes place once every four years. It is organised by FIFA, the international governing body of football.
The first World Cup was held in Uruguay in 1930 and since then it has been hosted by various countries. The next edition will be hosted in 2022 by Qatar.
The current format of the tournament involves 32 teams competing for the title over a period of about one month. The winning team receives the Jules Rimet trophy, named after French footballer Jules Rimet who was president of FIFA when the first World Cup was held, and retains it until the next World Cup.

The FIFA World Cup is the biggest sports event in the world. It is held once every 4 years and brings together people from around the globe to watch their favorite teams compete for glory.
The World Cup has been played since 1930, but was only held every 4 years starting in 1994. Before then, it was held every 2 years, as it still is today for some other international competitions such as Olympic Games and UEFA European Championship.
The reason why FIFA decided to make the World Cup an annual event at a global scale is because they wanted more countries to join in on the fun. In addition, they also wanted to raise awareness of their product with more people seeing it on TV or attending live games.
The World Cup is held every four years, but the football season does not stop there. The reason for this is that FIFA, the international football governing body, is based in Switzerland and operates on a calendar year.
The first World Cup was held in Uruguay in 1930 and since then has been held every four years apart from 1942 and 1946 because of World War II.
The next World Cup will be held in Russia in 2018. In 2022, it is expected to take place in Qatar – despite ongoing concerns over human rights abuses and corruption allegations against FIFA officials.

The first World Cup was held in Uruguay in 1930 and since then there have been seven more tournaments. The next one will be held in Qatar in 2022.
But why do we have to wait so long for the next one? And how did it all start?
The answer lies in a series of events that took place during the 1920s, when football was becoming increasingly popular around the world.
The first international match between teams from different countries was played between England and Scotland on 30 November 1872 at Glasgow’s West of Scotland Cricket Club.
The first international tournament – the British Home Championship – started two years later in 1874 and continued until 1984 when it was replaced by the Football League Trophy (which has since been rebranded as ‘EFL Trophy’). This tournament involved England, Scotland and Wales playing each other once a year over several months or years depending on how well they performed. In 1920-21, Ireland also joined this competition for the first time, making it an annual four-team tournament called The Four Nations Tournament.
In 1904, France became the fourth country to join this annual competition which was then renamed
Is the World Cup 2022 in the summer?
The 2022 World Cup will not be played in the summer months.
The 2022 World Cup has been moved from the summer to the winter due to Qatar’s extreme heat. The tournament will now be held in November and December 2022, with the final being played on December 18th.
It is expected that there will be a clash with Christmas shopping as well as attending a football match on Christmas Day. The final is also likely to be broadcast at the same time as England’s traditional Boxing Day international against Scotland, which could cause issues for supporters who want to attend both events.
The decision was made by FIFA in March 2017, following a vote by its executive committee members in January that year. In 2016 there were reports that the tournament could be moved because of concerns over Qatar’s ability to host an event during its hottest months (June-August).
