Not Your Father’s Root Beer was created by Tim Kovac, the owner of Small Town Brewery in Wauconda, Illinois. Because Kovac’s father never drank beer, Kovac had no idea what his father’s root beer would have been like. The first trial batch of Not Your Father’s Root Beer was brewed in 2012.

It is produced using the normal ingredients and procedure of an American lager, however with a unique mix of spices and natural products creating a one of a kind flavor. This is the second time I’ve had this brew. I’m a major root beer fan, so this interests me. The first time I’d it, I can’t say I didn’t like it, but at the same time it was exceptionally sweet and the alcohol was not all that covered up.
It’s been a year or so since my last go around with Not Your Father’s Root Beer. This time I’m going to try it differently.
I’m going to heat it up some and see if that helps mask the alcohol just a bit.
Nope! It helped a little bit, but not much. The sweet flavor comes through much more than the root beer flavor (which is what makes root beer so great). There really isn’t much of any root beer flavor here and what little there is sort of takes a back seat to the sweet taste of this stuff.
